AWHL national initiative receives highly commended award for SAGE’s Catalyst for Change
L-R: Dr Belinda Garth and Prof Helena Teede
The Advancing Women in Healthcare Leadership (AWHL) national initiative was the recipient of the Highly Commended Catalyst for Change award, announced at the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) 10-Year Anniversary Awards Dinner in Sydney on 25 August 2025.
This award recognises extraordinary contributions to gender equity, diversity and inclusion.
Our Chief Investigator, Professor Helena Teede, received the award on behalf of our incredible team and dedicated partners. This recognition celebrates the collective effort and commitment to advancing gender equity in leadership across healthcare and health and medical sciences.
Prof Teede and AWHL’s Senior Research Fellow & Translation Lead, Dr Belinda Garth, attended the Awards Dinner, which was a wonderful evening of celebration with SAGE and colleagues from across the health and medical sciences sector.
Notably, Monash University received the SAGE Athena Swan Silver accreditation for advancing gender equity, diversity and inclusion. This made Monash University the first Group of Eight university in Australia to gain this prestigious award. Read Monash University’s full article here.
Thank you to those who nominated the AWHL national initiative, and congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients — including Monash University — for the inspiring work being done to build more inclusive and equitable workplaces and systems across Australia.
