Recipients announced | Women in Leadership Scholarship Program

To celebrate International Women’s Day earlier this year, the Advancing Women in Healthcare Leadership (AWHL) initiative and the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI) opened up the opportunity for women working in healthcare across Australia to apply for a scholarship to attend the 3-day Monash University Women in Leadership Program. This leadership development program is evidence-based and past program participants have shared its positive impact on their career progression. The scholarship covers the full cost of program fees.

Scholarships were initially intended for two recipients - one from a health service and one from academia/research. After being inundated with applications from across healthcare in Australia, this number was increased to around 30 to enable more women to access this opportunity. Director of MCHRI and Chief Investigator of AWHL Professor Helena Teede, and Lead Research Fellow Dr Belinda Garth, felt it was important to ensure this opportunity was offered to as many applicants as possible across a diversity of healthcare professions and locations including rural and remote areas.

This is the first time the Women in Leadership Scholarship Program has run, and was the idea of Dr Garth, “I was motivated to do something practical this International Women’s Day, so I suggested we offer scholarships to enable more women to attend the program. I live in regional Victoria and am passionate about equity of access, especially for rural and remote women,” she said.

“We thank all applicants and extend our congratulations to the scholarship recipients - we look forward to welcoming you to the program,” said Professor Teede.

I am most looking forward to networking on a national level … and hopefully discover new skills to enable me to grow to my full potential.
