Organisational priority setting of evidence-based interventions that advance women in healthcare leadership

The under-representation of women in healthcare leadership has emerged as a critical concern for healthcare institutions, funding agencies and government. Gender equity interventions to address this gap have been developed over the years, and are synthesised in our recent systematic review of organisational-level interventions that advance women in leadership. However, few healthcare organisations report on how they actually prioritise these interventions when the time comes for planning an implementation strategy. In our most recent work, we report on how a collaborative group of professionals, with executive support, can set the cornerstones for implementation in their organisation using robust priority setting methods.

WHAT WE DID

Our most recent publication titled Using a Modified Delphi Approach and Nominal Group Technique for Organisational Priority Setting of Evidence-Based Interventions That Advance Women in Healthcare Leadership reports on the relevance, feasibility and importance of evidence-based interventions for implementation in a partnering healthcare organisation. With the support of an expert multi-disciplinary panel, including health professionals and leaders from the organisation, a Delphi survey was administered and results were presented for discussion in a Nominal Group Technique workshop. Here, the culmination of results from the survey and the workshop, systematically informs the list of prioritised interventions that meet specific implementation criteria aligned with the overarching strategic action plan of the participating organisation.

Read the full article here to learn about the overall priority setting process in the context of our findings and how that helped a dedicated organisation set priorities for advancing women in healthcare leadership. This approach is transferrable and can be adapted for other settings.
